Two decades ago the National Australian Built Environment Rating System, commonly known as NABERS, was launched to help commercial buildings reduce their energy and water consumption. The initiative has been a huge success with NABERS rated buildings seeing an increase in market value and saving a combined $500 million dollars in energy fees since 2010.
In early June 2018 NABERS for Apartment Buildings was launched in Sydney. Similar to the original commercial ratings system, NABERS for Apartment Buildings aims to improve buildings efficiencies, operations and value through rating energy and water performance in common property areas.
Since the program’s inception, PICA Group has been heavily involved in NABERS for Apartment Buildings. PICA Group provided benchmarking data for the entire state of Queensland, held a position on the National Stakeholder committee and participated in the pilot program.
PICA Group was thanked for their participation in the project and three buildings managed by PICA Group (“Malibu” Main Beach, “Copacabana” Surfers Paradise and “Fleetview” Jacksons Landing) were presented inaugural awards and recognised as amongst the first apartment buildings in Australia to receive a NABERS for Apartment Buildings Rating. PICA Group CEO Greg Nash and other team members were on hand to receive the awards on behalf of strata managers Evelyn McNeil (BCS Southport) and Jodie Gardener (Dynamic Property Services Sydney).
Congratulations to Evelyn, Jodie and their respective committees for this great achievement. PICA Group will continue to work with NABERS for Apartment Buildings into the future, to enhance the lives of our customers and the communities in which they live
